USGBC Carolinas Greenbuild Scholarship Application
The scholarship fund was established by the USGBC North Carolina Chapter (USGBC NC) in honor of the late Rob Eggers, a valued member of the Charlotte sustainable design community. A long-time volunteer with the local USGBC chapter, Rob served on the Education and Programs Committee. His volunteer work was instrumental in developing programs for the local branch and in strengthening partnerships with other organizations to provide education throughout the region. Passionate about education, Rob taught classes at several local community colleges, and became the first person to receive the LEED AP - Neighborhood Development credential in North Carolina.
USGBC is excited to offer scholarships for the 2017 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Boston, Massachusetts November 8th -10th to qualifying individuals under the age of 30. USGBC's scholarship is an investment in people who share our vision of 'green buildings and communities for all'.
The Scholarship is organized through the local Emerging Professionals program that bolsters the careers of young professionals from a range of disciplines through networking opportunities and hands-on leadership experience. The program equips participants with the tools they need to succeed as leaders of their chapters, organizations, their communities and the sustainability movement. It offers a fresh, innovative perspective to USGBC chapters and secures the future of green building by maintaining a pipeline of passionate, competent leaders.
The Scholarship is funded through proceeds of USGBC's Green Gala and Sustainable Business Awards, which will be held this year on September 21, 2017 at the Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte. This year’s winners will be honored at the Green Gala, will receive a free ticket to the event, and will have the chance to compete for an additional “peoples’ choice” award described below.
Like Rob Eggers, the applicant should demonstrate a passion for sustainability, interest in green building, and furthering one’s own education. The applicants are asked to demonstrate a personal or professional background that merits receipt of a scholarship as well as demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the green building mission through engagement over the long term. Applicants are encouraged to explain how attending Greenbuild 2017 would further their career or educational path in sustainability and define advantages of them participating in the conference for their community. Applicant must be a minimum of eighteen years of age and must submit all required application information. Applicant’s USGBC local branch membership and/or student chapter membership is a factor considered by the judges but is not a requirement. Consider joining at www.usgbcnc.org
